The College

The College is situated in Sonada, Darjeeling, and less than 1 Km from Sonada Railway Station. The College is a Co- Educational Degree College established in the year 1985. It is a Government established and Government-Aided College receiving financial assistance from the Government of West Bengal. The College campus is spread over approximately four acres of land in an ideal natural environmental location and is a very congenial atmosphere for studies, sports and other curricular activities. The College has a permanent affiliation with University of North Bengal, Raja Rammohanpur, P.O. North Bengal University. The University Grants Commission (UGC), Government of India, New Delhi has enlisted the College under section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act 1956. Thus this college is eligible to receive financial assistance from UGC, ICSSR, CSIR, Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India and other Central Government organizations in addition to the Government of West Bengal. The College imparts higher education leading to the award of Bachelor Degrees in both Honours and Program Courses under the North Bengal University.

The permanent faculty members of the College are recruited only on the recommendations of the College Service Commission (CSC) Government of West Bengal for the number of teaching post actually sanctioned by the Department of Higher Education and Directorate of Public Instruction, Government of West Bengal, while the State Aided College Teachers are recruited by the Governing Body of the College as per the rules and approval of the Government.

To inculcate the spirit of enquiry and enlightment amongst the students, and to mould them into intellectually competent, morally upright, socially committed and spiritually inspired citizens of India by imparting pragmatic, holistic and personalized education.

Sonada Degree College is an educational institution which aims to serve the community and the country through its students. In order to achieve this, the college strives-

1. To provide relevant academic knowledge along with co-curricular to ensure all round growth of the students of the less privileged background.
2. To foster an environment for the students to build their character, promote nationalism and practice secularism.
3. To promote a balance between man and nature through environment friendly practices such as energy conservation, proper disposal of waste, water harvesting and use of sustainable energy sources.
4. To ensure every student’s mental well-being by inculcating the practice of mentorship.
5. To practice community service and social accountability through NSS by conducting cleanliness drives, health camps and numerous awareness programs.
6. To instill discipline and leadership qualities through the various programs of NCC.
